AASHTO Accreditation

The AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP) was established in 1988 as a means of formally recognizing the competence of testing laboratories to perform specific tests on construction materials.

AAP is a voluntary program that is available to all testing laboratories including government, commercial, university, and research facilities.

Laboratory Assessments

AMRL’s Laboratory Assessment Program (LAP) was established in 1966 to provide on-site assessments of laboratories that perform testing of materials that are used for construction and the preservation of roads and bridges.

The scope of the program currently includes the following fields of testing: soil, aggregate, asphalt cement, emulsified asphalt, hot mix asphalt, metals, plastic pipe, and spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM).

Proficiency Samples

The AMRL Proficiency Sample Program (PSP) was introduced in March 1966, when samples were initially distributed only to state Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration testing laboratories. At that time, four basic material types were included in the scope of the program: fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, soil, and asphalt binder.
