How do I get started?
1. Obtain a current and valid AASHTO R18 Accreditation.
2. Implement a quality system which satisfies the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
3. Maintain records establishing the traceability of measurement equipment applicable to the laboratory's scope of accreditation (see Procedures Manual).
4. Submit an ISO/IEC 17025 Assessment Request Form.
5. Submit a completed ISO/IEC 17025 Technician Training Matrix.
6. Submit a current copy of your laboratory's quality manual and related documentation.
7. Provide AMRL with records of the laboratory's most recent internal audit and management review.
8. Receive an additional ISO/IEC 17025 assessment (this assessment will be separate from the routine on-site assessment of test methods and quality system).

Why should my lab consider ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation?
Participation in the AASHTO Accreditation Program does not require compliance to ISO/IEC 17025. Therefore, laboratories pursue this accreditation on an optional basis. Your laboratory may want to consider accreditation for ISO/IEC 17025 if a specifier requires it, global recognition of your products or services is desired, or your laboratory is interested in (or already has) ISO 9001 or 9002 certification.
