Directions from Pittsburgh, PA

• Take I-76E to Exit 161 (I-70E/US-30/Baltimore/Washington, D.C./ Breezewood)
• Take the US-30W exit
• Turn right at end of ramp onto US-30W
• Turn left onto I-70E
• Take Exit 53 onto I-270S toward Washington, D.C.
• Follow I-270S to Exit 11 (Quince Orchard Rd. / MD-124W)
• Turn right at end of ramp onto Quince Orchard Rd.
• Turn left at second light onto Rt. 117 / Clopper Rd.
• Turn right at next light into NIST main gate
• Veer right toward the Visitor Center entrance - do not go through the main gate
• Stop at the Visitor Center and sign in - you will need photo identification (driver’s license or passport)

Directions From Harrisburg, PA

• Take US-15S
• US-15S becomes I-270S
• Take I-270S toward Washington, D.C.
• Follow I-270S to Exit 11 (Quince Orchard Rd. / MD-124W)
• Turn right at end of ramp onto Quince Orchard Rd.
• Turn left at second light onto Rt. 117 / Clopper Rd.
• Turn right at next light into NIST main gate

• Take I-270S toward Washington, D.C.

• Take I-495W / Capital Beltway to Exit 35 (I-270N toward Frederick)
• Take I-270N and merge into local lanes for Exit 10-11
• Take Exit 10 (MD-117 / MD-124W / Clopper Rd.)
• Turn right at light at end of ramp onto MD-117 / MD-124W / Clopper Rd.
• Turn left at the next light into NIST main gate
• Veer right toward the Visitor Center entrance - do not go through the main gate

Directions from Richmond, VA and points south

• Take I-95N toward Washington, D.C. 
• Take Exit 170B (I-495N / Capital Beltway toward Tysons Corner)
• Take I-495N to I-270 Spur (on the left)
• Merge onto I-270N (toward Rockville / Frederick)
• Take I-270N and merge into local lanes on right for Exit 10-11
• Take Exit 10 (MD-117 / MD-124W / Clopper Rd.)
• Turn right at light at end of ramp onto MD-117 / MD-124W / Clopper Rd.
• Turn left at the next light into NIST main gate
• Veer right toward the Visitor Center entrance - do not go through the main gate

Directions from Blacksburg, VA

• Turn right when leaving Visitor Center parking lot
• Show your Visitor badge to the guard at the main gate - you may also need to show photo ID again 
• Proceed through the main gate and turn right at the stop sign onto North Drive
• Make next left onto West Drive
• Follow West Drive to the end
• Turn left at stop sign onto South Drive
• Make next right onto Center Drive
• Turn into the first parking lot on your right, Building 202
• Call extension 5450 from the visitor’s telephone box located on the outside of the building, by the main doors on the left side of the building.
